Rani Mukherjee Biography

This bong beauty Rani Mukerji comes from a film-oriented family of Bengali origin. Rani has done her schooling from Maneckji Cooper High School in Juhu, and later enrolled at Mithibai College in Mumbai.
Her father Ram Mukherji is a retired director and one of the founders of "Filmalaya Studios" while her mother, Krishna Mukherjee, was a playback singer.





She also has a brother called Raja Mukherji who is a film producer, now turned director. She is the cousin of Bollywood actress Kajol. Rani is a trained Odissi dancer, and began learning the dance in tenth grade.


She appeared in the big screen at the age of 14 where she did a cameo role in a Bengali film Biyar Phool (1992) directed by her father.


While in school at the age of 14, Mukerji did a cameo role in her father's Bengali film In 1994, Salim Akhtar, a family friend, offered her a film called Aa Gale Lag Jaa (1994) but her father was against it as she was too young. Mukerji turned down the offer and Urmila Matondkar was cast instead.


After two years, Salim Akhtar offered her Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat (1997). It was considered as her debut film but when the film was unsuccessful at the box office, Mukerji returned to college to complete her education.

In 1997 she did Ghulam with Aamir Khan which was a blockbuster she got her claim to fame from this film.

She got her big break in Bollywood when Karan Johar approached her for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1988) opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The film turned out to be a hit and Rani's performance was praised by one and all. After this there was no looking back for her she was director's actor. She was flooded with offers after this success. In 2002 she delivered the biggest hit Saathiya opposite Vivek Oberoi which was a blockbuster.


In 2004 her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black was critically acclaimed by all the critics. After giving whole lot of excellent performance her latest film No One Killed Jessica (2011) made roars at the box office.

Presently she is working for Reema Kagti's untitled project. Mukerji changed the English transliteration of her surname from Mukherjee to Mukerji several years ago.

At the time, it was reported that she did this for numerological reasons. In 2006, Mukerji stated that numerology was not a concern; her name had been put down as Mukerji on her passport, and she wanted to be consisten
